Meeting Jesus at the Movies

If you haven’t tried this group yet, consider doing it as a summer treat. It’s kind of a Bible study with a brief lecture on the geographical-socio-theological-political issues of 1st century Galilee and Judea thrown in, and then a highly engaging cinematic portrayal and stimulating discussion. In June we will be seeing the people following Jesus being slowly transformed by Jesus’ deep compassion for their marginalized neighbors (and the Romans become more and more wary of him). We’ll see him calling some unlikely disciples and watch how they respond. We’ll see Jesus dance and heal people and pray and laugh and become frustrated. And we’ll see him begin to reveal who he is and what he is about, starting with the Samaritan woman at the well. Early in July we will complete Season One and take a break for the remainder of the summer.

To catch up on episodes you might have missed, watch The Chosen, Season 1, Episodes 1-4 on one of the many streaming platforms where it’s available, including thechosen.tv (free) and Prime Video (paid subscription). Alternatively, you can borrow the DVD with these episodes (see Cherry Johnson) but come whether you’ve watched the earlier episodes or not. It will still be meaningful!
