Seattle Jazz Vespers: Karen Kajita Quintet with Angela Petrucci

The Karin Kajita Jazz Quintet, featuring vocalist Angela Petrucci, presents “The Life and Music of Duke Ellington,” a performance tracing the arc of Ellington’s career through his compositions. This group, led by pianist Karin Kajita, performs Ellington’s work, from his early days to his international orchestra tours, with Kajita also highlighting Ellington’s important contributions as a pianist.
Karin is a jazz and classical pianist and composer. She received her music degrees from the University of Washington. She received two Milnor Roberts awards, two Bainbridge Music and Arts awards and an Artist’s Support grant from the Jack Straw Cultural Center. In 2019 she received a Golden Key first place national award for her composition “Confluence” and an invitation to play in a festival in Vienna.
