Japanese American Internment - 75th AnniversarySunday, Feb. 19 is the 75th Anniversary of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt signing Executive Order 9066, which sent 110,000 Americans of Japanese descent who lived on the West Coast into concentration camps during World War II. Seattle First Baptist Church came to the aid of our sisters and brothers of Japanese descent during that time, and now we remember the internment as the enormous violation of human rights that it was.
On Sunday, Feb. 19, we will recognize the Internment during worship at 11 a.m. Immediately following worship our congregation is invited to march down Broadway to Japanese Baptist Church, where we will share coffee hour with our sisters and brothers. Transportation will be available for people who are unable to make the walk, which is about 15 minutes long. See below for more information on the Internment and related activities. |
