Pastor’s Updates for August

Call for Helpers: Children’s Church Beginning in September

When we welcome children into our church family, we covenant with them and their parents and guardians to support and nurture them as people, and as they grow in faith. Sunday school classes for children (including Godly Play) have been on hiatus for several years, and it is high time that we revisit the need for ways to nurture the children among us in faith! The pastors are excited to announce that we will begin a weekly “Children’s Church” in September after Homecoming. Children’s Church will take place in the Hintz Chapel immediately after the worship service and is open to all children infancy through 5th grade. We will gather to hear a Bible story, sing, pray and share a snack from about noon to 12:30pm each Sunday. Adults are welcome to go to coffee hour while children are in the Chapel.

But the pastors can’t do it without YOU! Can you read a Bible story or a picture book to kids? Can you lead children in learning a song? Can you simply offer a safe and supportive presence as a helper while someone else leads? If so, we need YOU to sign up to help! We need at least 1 adult per week in addition to a pastor. Contact Pastor Anita to share your interest in helping this ministry.

Save the Date for Homecoming

SFBC’s Homecoming worship will be on Sunday, September 13, followed by an all-church lunch. On this day, we will also celebrate, give thanks for and bless our Administrator of 10+ years, Darren Hochstedler, as he concludes his time on staff and retires. Information about a love offering for Darren is forthcoming.
